Port Louis

This happening capital city was founded by Bertrand-Francois Mahe’ de La Bourdonnais in 1735, the French governor of Mauritius. It is the commercial and administrative capital of this island nation.

Champ de Mars

There are many historical places to visit in Port Louis and Champ de Mars – home to one of the oldest race course in this part of the world. Best time to visit is from December -March

Fort Adelaide

It was constructed in the 1830’s by William IV. “La Citadelle”, this fort of historic importance was named after Queen Adelaide. Standing tall at 240ft, climb the hill to reach the fort to catch some spectacular view of the city.

Marie Reine de la Paix

It is one of the oldest Catholic Church in Port Louis. The church is quietly tucked away from the hustle-bustle of city life and be prepared to climb the 80 odd steps to reach the side of Signal Mountain.


Located in the Wharf Street; houses documents of laborers who arrived on this island hundreds of years ago.
