proscons Pros and Cons

Best in class noise-cancellation
Good solid design
Excellent sound quality
Ideal for long sessions
Bluetooth sound quality is first class
Wired mode when batteries run out
Quite heavy than QC25
Battery cannot be replaced by users
Prolonged use results in sweaty earcups
Nylon construction is unimpressive
Signal processing incorporation is unlike Bose

Hats off to QuietComfort   Bose series, noise-canceling is definitely Bose’s forte. A wireless headphone incorporated with the top class noise-canceling feature.  People were really eager to get their hands on to this product and this one doesn’t disappoint even a tad bit.

Design and Performance  Even though it is quite similar to the previous model QC25, it weighs around 196 grams. The significant change in this headphone design is the wide headband and its sturdiness. With microphones outside and inside the earcups, the response is equal and precise.

Battery It is rated around 20 hours and this time Bose has moved on to the rechargeable integrated battery. The headphone does work with wires when the batteries run out.

Sound Quality The stellar feature of this headphone is noise-canceling and Bluetooth sound quality is quite impressive. The bass sounds meaty with corded headphones.

Additional  Features  The right ear cup includes an integrated remote with buttons to control playback, ending and answering calls, and volume. Also, works with Connect app for Android or iOS devices.

Overall, top y-notch premium quality headphones from Bose. Bose is still the A-standard in the noise-canceling headphones segment.

Sony MDR-1000X

Dimensions: 16 x 24.1 x 11.4 cm
Power source: 20 hours Battery life-rechargeable lithium ion
Weight: 9.7 oz
Design: Circumaural
Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.1
Impedance: 16 ohm and 46 ohms with 1 kHz unit on and off respectively
Price: USD 400

proscons Pros and Cons

Good battery life
Top-notch sound quality
Unbeatable clarity
Crafty extra features
Very comfortable to wear
Noise canceling not too effective
Extensive use of plastic in design
Charge time-4 hours

Many consider Bose as the benchmark for noise-canceling headphones but Sony is giving them tough competition with this elegantly designed headphone. Sony’s best and technologically most advanced headphone, it facilitates precise noise-canceling and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.

Design and Performance – The ear pads were newly developed for this model. The touch controls that are embedded for track skipping and volume adjustment are good compared to the previous model MDR-1ABT. Designed with microphones, both inside and outside earcups, high-quality drivers are installed for rich, crisp detailed performance.

Called as Sense Engine, Sony claims to provide noise-canceling suited to meet individual taste. From providing different types of alternate settings like ambient noise adjustment or by zoning out everything except voice, Sense Engine works perfectly.

Battery  This model guarantees around 20 hours of Battery life and cable is included for wired mode listening.

Sound Quality  Supports LDAC for rich quality sound other than normal Bluetooth streaming but requires a music player with LDAC compatibility. Also, Sony has mentioned that this headphone is embedded with Digital Sound Enhancement Engine ( DSEE HXTM), for enhancing sound quality from any source. Keeping all that in perspective, the punchy bass and treble effect is quite dynamic.

Additional Features  The muffle feature adds that extra bit of personal touch to this headphone, the minute we hold our hand over-ear cup, the music gets muffled. Once the conversation is over, by just removing the hand the music starts from that point without any hiccups.

Finally, Sony MDR-1000X is launched as the direct competitor to Bose QuietComfort 35 and the sound quality it offers is truly marvelous. A bit touch expensive than Bose by around USD 50, Sony is a compelling choice.

Top quality headset
Well executed on/off feature
Handsomely comfortable
Lack of definition
Momentum II sounds better
Touch controls at times unresponsive
Misfiring of control pad in specific modes

Design and Performance A comfortable design with just 227 grams in weight. Lacks premium design features of Wireless Momentum II, but touch controls are placed on the right cup, automatically switches on or off when worn or folded.

This model offers excellent hiss-free output, which is the basic standard of all noise-canceling Bose headphones.

Battery  The battery life is stacked around 30 hours and for a wireless headset this is not at all bad.

Sound Quality  The sound quality is awesome for a wireless Bluetooth headphone. The bass effect is pretty nice but it lacks definition and sparkle.

To sum up, Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless is fully packed, comfortable and performance is also quite well.

Noise cancellation cannot be turned off

Well, it may be quite expensive, but Momentum  Wireless 2.0 is an impressive and excellent Bluetooth headset that offers both, Bluetooth as well as solid cable performance.

Design and Performance  For beginners, it’s sturdy and comfortable. Recently, Sennheiser tweaked its design to become more portable and easy to carry.

In this model, the earcups are bigger and fit the ears in style. The Bluetooth 4.0 headset also supports aptX codec other than Noise canceling function. The buttons are strategically placed on earcups(right) for easy operation.

Wireless range is 10 meters and works efficiently. Performance-wise, there is no button to switch off the noise-canceling at will.

Battery life  Rock solid battery life that lasts for 22 hours. There may be a Bluetooth twitch occasionally, but battery performance is excellent.

Sound quality  It is a balanced headphone. The bass sounds punchy and refined, the sound quality varies between tracks. In wired mode, it plays truly well when compared to wireless mode.

Finally, to conclude, Momentum Wireless 2.0 is a well-designed excellent headphone that provides rock-solid performance when wired also. This model too is slightly overpriced like the Beats Wireless Studio headset.

Known worldwide to produce aesthetic looking, feel good, and powerful headphones; Sony H.ear not only looks fantastic but also stunning to hear.

Design and Performance  With a weight of 290 grams, Sony MDR-1ABN is slightly a pinch heavy than Quiet Comfort 35 from Bose. The finish of this headphone is staggeringly beautiful and the controls are placed on the earcup(right) with an option to turn the noise canceling off or on.

The Volume, track skipping/pause/play are not placed on the earcup as touch controls but Sony has skipped this feature to show that the design is very minimal and attractive.

Two drivers 40mm each push the frequency to around 40 kHz, resulting in details that are mind-blowing and exceptional. The ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) works well but not like Bose QuietComfort 35.

Battery  Provides  20 hours of continuous uninterrupted battery life before every charge, Sony H.ear MDR-1ABN does not disappoint in that aspect.

Sound Quality   Sony’s Automatic AI function works constantly to zoom out ambient sound and selects an ideal noise-canceling setup. The bass is tight with nice clarity and the overall sound display is excellent.

Well, Bose headphones offer a  nice well-rounded design, comfort and rich noise-canceling feature and Sony offer a headphone that is excellent sound-wise.

Bose Quiet Comfort 25

Rating: 5.00/5 (1 votes)

proscons Key Specifications

Dimensions: 7.7 H in x 0.9 D in x 6 in W
Power source: AAA single battery
Weight: 6.9 oz
Design: Circumaural
Connectivity: Headphone cable
Impedance: 32 ohms
Price: USD 259

proscons Pros and Cons

Comfortable Design
Rich dynamic sound
Home trial available for free
High volume distortion not present
Excellent bright crisp highs and powerful lows
Passive mode feature
Weighs only 6.9 ounces
Higher grade built design
Design lacks rechargeable battery option, fitted with AAA battery
Automatic off option absent in this model
Battery life not long enough for big trips

The QuietComfort 25 from Bose once again proves why they are market leaders in the headphone segment,  with this product they have scaled to a new level. Even though this looks similar, but this headphone has been created with simple improvements from its predecessor, passive mode function has been included.

Design and Performance The headband has been made comfortable with a cloth-like material covering the top, with sufficient padding available under-side. The over-ears (circumaural) as usual are always, exclusively plush. The detachable wire is connected to the earcup(left) and the power button is on the right earcup.

The headphones can be used when the batteries have run-out and the noise-canceling function is not required. When it comes to performance, QuietComfort does an excellent job by shutting out the hums, whirs, and drones of hectic city life. The headphone provides a super-rich listening experience and the output is good when noise cancellation is activated.

Battery  With one AAA battery, the battery delivers a solid 35 hours of uninterrupted performance, playing music even when the battery is dead.

Sound Quality  The QC 25 sounds better than QC 15, the bass is much brighter, tighter and clearer. The treble effect sounds a bit tad edgy, making poorly recorded tracks sound worse than the original.

When it comes to overall performance, it is difficult to find a headphone that works as effectively as Bose. Overlooking the price tag,  Bose QuietComfort 25 is a must-try premium ‘A’ quality top-notch headphone available in the market today.

Design: Closed ear
Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0
Impedance: 32 Ohm
Price: USD 249.99

proscons Pros and Cons

Solid battery life
Bluetooth connectivity multipoint
Sound very amiable
Works well for phone calls
Earcup sensor is alive and noteworthy
Bass at times overwhelming
Design may not suit all
Heavy and not lightweight
Bluetooth pairing is time-consuming and tedious

The old Plantronics headset earned a nice reputation because of their best noise-canceling feature and rich sound. The Plantronics 2 has improved upon its design to give the listeners a better feel.

Design and Performance The design is straightforward. The ear cups silver mesh design holds the noise canceling function. The controls on the right are for power and answering calls. The left cup holds the volume, playback, and noise-canceling toggle.

The Pro 2 is much lighter than the original Backbeat Pro, they are just around 290 grams. The bass plays pretty well like the original in this headphone too; some audiophiles may quibble about the bass effect that is overbearing at times.

When ANC (active noise canceling) is enabled, the slight hiss is unavoidable. Overall, decent performance but not like QC 35.

Battery life  The Battery life is incredibly long with DeepSleep mode enabled to last up to 6 months. The charge lasts more than a day.

Sound Quality  The headphones perform well and also sound better. The Plantronics backbeat PRO 2 headphones offer nice Bluetooth connectivity, rich sound, and a sturdy fit, at an affordable price range.

Bose Quiet Comfort 20

Rating: 5.00/5 (1 votes)

proscons Key Specifications

Dimensions: 1.25" H x 0.5" D x 1" W (Stay Hear+Tips)
Power source: Rechargeable lithium ion
Weight: 1.55 oz
Design: In-ear
Connectivity: Cable
Impedance: 32 ohms
Price: USD 224

proscons Pros and Cons

Rechargeable integrated lithium battery
Good sound and cozy to wear
Uninterrupted battery charge for 16 hours
Handy alert mode feature
Innovatively designed ear tip
Ideal choice for spectacle wearers
Battery cannot be replaced
Expensive in this category
Wind noise trouble present
Mic position not apt
Lack of high-quality punching sound

Since 2000, it has become a regular affair from Bose to launch noise-canceling headsets. Quiet Comfort 20 was the company’s first headphone with the in-ear design allowing noise-canceling. There are 2 models namely-one for Apple users (QC20) and another for Non-Apple users(QC20i).

Design and Performance  First and foremost, it is easy to wear and fits securely. They weigh just 1.5 ounces. Design-wise MIE2i (Bose) and Bose QuietComfort20 are similar. TriPort design allows enhancing acoustic voodoo and the processing chip in this model is exclusive.

When it comes to performance, these types of headphones (noise-canceling) will never fail to produce a slight hiss. So, if you wish to hear everything crystal clear, then it is time you prefer other headphones.

Battery  The battery available in the model cannot be replaced. However,  it is lithium-ion and can be recharged using a standard USB cable and Bose guarantees 16 hours of battery life.

Sound Quality  The sound quality is safe. Like other Bose headphones,   it gives a rich bass effect but not the tightest of it. The sound is mainly smooth and nice but the details are missing.

Additional features  The QC20 in-ear headphones come with three comfortable “StayHear+” ear tips. A second remote is further added to the Y-cable for volume control. Aware mode, to cut noise cancellation and engage with the outside world.

To sum up, QC20 other than the battery, it is an excellent product worth buying. Not only are they easy to carry but are comfortable to wear. It is a good choice for those who do not want big headphones with noise cancellation feature.

If you are ready to overlook the price, then QC20 can be a good companion during long-distance trips.

Bose Quiet Control 30

Rating: 4.00/5 (1 votes)

proscons Key Specifications

Dimensions: 6 in H x 0.75 in D x 6.5 in W
Power source: 10 hours Full charge
Weight: 2.25 oz
Design: In-ear, semi-open (neckband type)
Connectivity: Bluetooth
Impedance: 32 ohms
Price: USD 299.95

proscons Pros and Cons

Nose cancellation is top class
Brilliant sound quality
Noise-cancelling variable
Headphones suitable for sportsperson also
Good wireless connectivity
High crips and rich bass
Wired option missing
Uncomfortable collar design
Noise canceling is not as robust as other Bose models
Lags in performance during video trials
Phone-mic lacks quality

Looks like a sports headphone but this QuietControl 30 works as a regular headphone,  QC 30 is a worthy successor to Bose Wireless SoundSport.

Design and Performance  Design-wise, the neckband type Bluetooth headset appears in a horseshoe design when worn. Cannot be called lightweight, the headsets feature StayHear+, which makes it comfortable to wear. A neckband button to start with, a remote on the cable itself.

There’s an on-off button below the neckband, which is a well thought out move this time compared to the slider in QC 35. The noise-canceling feature is way too better in QC 30 and the overall quality of these neckband type headphones is not too fantastic.

Battery  The charge holds for a period of 10 hours at a stretch and battery wise, it can be used for days between charges.

Sound Quality  Details of mids and bass is impressive. High notes do not sound that much good. This Bose headset functions much better than JBL’s Everest Elite headset. The overall sound is fine with full bass.

The QuietControl 30 is designed as a headset (wireless) and even though it is not outstanding, it is not bad for a sports Bluetooth headset.

Additional feature  Allows the user to listen to their own voice and this side-tone function is handy when it comes to receiving calls.

Power source: 320 mAh,30-hour full charge
Weight: 5.29 oz
Design: Supraaural
Connectivity: Wired
Impedance: 32 ohm
Price: USD 225.93

proscons Pros and Cons

Compact and well designed
Sounds good
Rechargeable battery of 30 hours
Easy to carry
Passive listening mode
Cable design-removable
Cable is not normal Micro-USB
No volume controls
For booming bass listeners, this is a misfit
Hiss sound present when noise cancellation is switched on
Wireless support not available
Flimsy design -USB cable

Well, for beginners it occupies less space and it suits small-headed persons to start with. Instead of always preferring Bose headphones, this headset is not a bad option either.

Design and Performance –  It is easy to carry and neatly fits into the neoprene case; weighing 179 grams without the connecting cord. Aluminum accenting design with soft leather-encased earcups sits pretty easy on ears.

The noise-canceling is not as impressive as Bose’s and a slight hiss is present. The headphone really does muffle out sounds in a grand way and Bluetooth is missing.

The single-button remote works well with Apple iOS as well as Android devices. Volume control is not available in this model.

Battery – The AKG offers more than 30 hours of battery life powered by one AAA battery. When the battery is dead, passive mode listening can be started.

Sound Quality  The sound is a lot cleaner, and it is not as standard as Beyerdynamic’s T51i headset. The overall sound is well balanced with the soft midrange, fine treble and an effective bass much better than QC 20 and QC 25.

The richness and depth offered by this headphone are much better than QC 25, making it sound like a big headphone. But for longer sessions, Bose is still the number one choice.

With minor glitches aside, this headphone is well designed and surprises with maximum sound quality. Without any doubt, AKG N60 NC gives Bose a run for its money.

◊ Product Highlights ◊

♦  Excellent sound quality, better than Bose

  Mainly suited for small heads

  Less expensive

  Price range-US$ 86 to US$ 249.95

In conclusion, all the top 10 amazing headphones are good performers in their own way and depending on your budget and requirement, choose your pick.
