Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (25 June 1963 – 25 December 2016), known as George Michael, was an English song writer, singer, composer and a renowned music celebrity. George Michael was a leading British pop star of the 1980s. His father was a Greek Cypriot restaurant owner who changed his name from Kyriacos Panayiotou to Jack Michael when he settled in England in the 1950s. When he was in his early teens, he hit up a friendship with one of his schoolmates, Andrew Ridgeley. Both Michael and Ridgeley, in 1979 formed a ska band ‘The Executive’ and in 1981 formed a pop pair called ‘Wham’. In 1985, they became the first Western pop group to tour the People's Republic of China. He was a two time Grammy award winner, three times American Music Award winner, four times MTV moon man trophy winner. He has also won three Brit Awards, and four Ivor Novello Awards in a music career spanning more than two decades.
Michael died of heart failure on December 25, 2016 at his home in England at the age of 53. George Michael's death brought a torrent of anguish from his fans around the world.
